Советские космические собаки
The Soviet Space Dogs
during the 1950s and 1960s the USSR used dogs for sub-orbital and orbital space flights. they were trying to determine whether human spaceflight was feasible. throughout these years, the Soviet Union launched missions with passenger slots for at least 57 dogs. some dogs flew more than once. the ones that perished were lost mostly through technical failures, according to the parameters of the test. Лайка (Laika) was the first dog to be sent into orbit and her death was expected from the beginning due to rushed time parameters.
within this project, i'm exploring the struggles that these dogs faced, finding strong connections between their experiences and human psychology. the fear, isolation, abandonment, betrayal, and mistrust they must have felt are all feelings that individuals, including myself, often experience due to traumatic events.
